★ About the Palestinian Sound Archive ★

The Palestinian Sound Archive was founded to preserve Palestinian audio history through different mediums : by re-releasing music/sound recordings (in physical and digital formats), through club nights and radio sets, through audio-visual installations, live performances and storytelling sessions which situate the music in their cultural, social and political contexts. In the past five years, it became clear that not only these sounds needed to be safeguarded, but the extraordinary histories and experiences of the musicians who made them, which form part of the broader Palestinian story. The Palestinian Sound Archive therefore uncovered hundreds of stories of Palestinian artists and shares them through live performances, counting how they made and distributed their work in the face of displacement, censorship, exile, persecution, arrests, the First and Second Intifadas and other major events.

The Palestinian Sound Archive was founded by Mo’min Swaitat in 2019 but is comprised of and supported by freelance visual and sound artists, musicians, DJs, curators, organisers and researchers, without whom the work would not be possible.

This event explores archival practice as a decolonial methodology and act of resistance, through sharing archival sounds and images that preserve and document Palestinian heritage, culture, celebrating, dance and resistance.

R21 AKA Restoring Solidarity - Mohanad Yaqubi, 2022 (JP/en)

R21 aka Restoring Solidarity is a compilation of 20 film reels created between 1964 and 1982, documenting the Palestinian struggle. Originally commissioned and collected by the Tokyo office of the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO), these reels stand as a testament to the deep commitment of the Japanese solidarity groups that screened, preserved, and safeguarded them for decades.

Blending interviews with PLO leaders and documentary glimpses of life in refugee camps, the film blurs the lines between found footage, documentary, and archival cinema. Through the act of restoration, R21 becomes a time capsule of resistance that transcends both time and geography. It revives a shared memory of collective struggle, reminding us that solidarity is not bound by borders or eras.

A creative writing workshop centered on reflection, resistance and community care!

In the face of the ongoing atrocities — the genocide in Gaza, the war starting in the Middle East, the violence of western colonialism and the repression of our movements — it’s easy to feel overwhelmed, powerless, or consumed by rage and grief. This workshop aims to offer a space to reflect on those emotions through guided writing exercises. Because resistance also begins with care, with attention to our emotions and our surroundings, it’s essential to come together as a community and create a space where words and feelings can be freely expressed.

You don’t need to be a professional writer or an examplary activitist to take part. Your sole existence, with your own experiences and thoughts suffice to be source of inspiration. Every word you write is already a powerful act of creation. Let us create an open, attentive and empathetic space for collective introspection.
